Busia First Lady Judy Ojaamong joins Uganda Speaker, Katikiro in marathon race

Busia First Lady Judy Ojaamong today (Saturday) joined   Parliament  of Uganda Speaker  Rebecca  Kadaga and  Baganda  Katikiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Maiga for the  Run for Maternal Health Marathon  at Lumino-Bukwekwe Primary School  Grounds in  Samia Bugwe South  in Uganda.
After flagging off the 13km men’s  race and 3km for women,  the trio  walked for 3km  to Lumino Health centre where they  visited the maternity ward before planting trees.
Judy  impressed the Katikiro  when she  knelt  down before  planting the tree. ” You have given it respect already,” Maiga  said.
 The aim of the event  was   to raise Ksh7m   to equip two maternity wards  so as to reduce mortality rate  and disability among  the newly born children.
Judy  said she is happy Uganda is  adopting  the brainchild of  Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta. ”  I was also impressed when  Uganda First Lady  Janet Museveni joined us in Nairobi for the  Beyond Zero  campaign  Marathon. I had to reciprocate that kind gesture,” she said.
Kadaga thanked  Kenya’s   First Lady Margaret Kenyatta  for  her marathon races to  help raise funds to combat  maternal and child mortality rates. She  promised to honor next year’s marathon in a big way.
Katikiro thanked Kenyan delegation led by  Busia First Lady  Judy Ojaamong  and promised to promote  welfare of mothers in  rural areas.
He said Ignorance, Poverty  and Disease  were the biggest challenges in Uganda  and urged  the Government to rise up  and address these vices.
Judy donated  Ush1.8m, Funyula MP Paul  Otuoma through   MCA  Wilberforce Sande sent Ush3m. Sande donated   Ush165,000. MCAs from Busia County who attended the event included Nur Mohammed,  Alice Chevi and Rachel Omollo.
Samia Bugwe  South MP and Minister of State for  East African Affairs   Julius Maganda  said  Busia Kenya and Uganda are separated by Boundaries but they are the same people, adding that they are  part of  problems in Uganda.
Chevi who represented Budalangi MP  Ababu  Namwamba  featured in the 3km marathon race. Busia County soccer team landed an invitation to play  a soccer match after the marathon. The team was led by captain Salim Suleiman.
