Busia residents have lauded Governor Sospeter Ojaamong for facing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni with brevity regarding tribulations facing his residents.
The Governor talked for nearly three minutes, but what came out of his candid speech was applauded left Kenyans and Ugandans who attended the commissioning of the One Stop Border Post at Busia Uganda on Saturday .
Ojaamong told President Museveni to put to a halt the tribulations Kenyan residents were facing at the hands of his soldiers and making them eat raw fish as a punishment.
He also told the two leaders to have small scale traders to enjoy the benefits accrued from OSBP which appears to benefit big traders, adding that President Uhuru should reciprocate by constructing a parking bay for trucks.
David Maggio said the Governor was spot on in taking the two leaders head on regarding tribulations Kenyan fishermen were being subjected to by Ugandan security officers while fishing on Lake Victoria.
” Our Governor indeed wants to leave a legacy. A solution to the plight of fishermen as per the two heads of state will be a big plus to our Governor who kick started the debate,” he said.
County Boda boda Sacco chairman Eric Makokha said the Governor deserves a pat in the back for defending his people. ” It is true Busia County donated land for the construction of the OSBP in Busia and Malaba. We deserve a trailer park in the two border towns like in Uganda,” he said.
” We want the Governor to leave a legacy as he exits in 2022 when we shall consider Judy Onamu Ojaamong for the Women’s representative seat ,” he said.
