One hundred and ninety students from Busia County have benefited from Sh2.34 million bursaries courtesy of Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua’s Affirmative Action Fund.
The students drawn from 146 Institutions including the Kenya Medical Training College Busia Campus and Alupe University, received a minimum of Sh10,000 and a maximum of Sh30,000.
Addressing the recipients of the bursaries outside her Busia Office on Sunday, Mutua said she is sympathetic with men who are not covered by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund.
” Men Fund has to be sought to alleviate their sufferings. Meanwhile, I beseech them to join women groups. I hope women will take this proposal into consideration.
I also have a bone to bite with some wards which are sleeping on the job. In Samia only Agenga Nanguba and Bwiri are active in activating women groups while the rest are sleeping. This laziness must stop,” she said.
The Women rep dismissed the gossip making rounds about her quest for the Deputy Governor’s post in 2022 elections. ” Who told these gossipers that I am interested in these DG affairs? When time comes I will announce.”
“This is time to work and not to politic. Women are very loyal. Give them any equipment, they will utilize them very well. Youth should emulate such gesture.
They need to persevere and work hard to make a profit. The mentality of expecting instant profits when they acquire or given equipment must stop,” she said.
