The County Government of Busia has made a milestone in fast-tracking the legal frameworks outlined in the County Government Act so as to provide good services to the people, Chief Officer in the Office of the Governor, Ezekiel Okwach has said.
Speaking during a consultative meeting between County Government and Civil Society Organizations ‘ representatives at Rastopark Hotel on Tuesday, Dr. Okwach said they will work together with CSOs in realizing this dream for the county.
“We want Busia to be ahead in terms of making Legal Frameworks, and in terms of making service delivery to be conducive to the people who are getting these services and making sure citizens get the information they want and at the right time when they need it.’’
CSOs want the fast tracking and enactment of the decentralized units, Public Participation and Monitoring and Evaluation Acts.
Community Empowerment and Development Centre Coordinator Willis Sumba urged the County to invest more in social media.” I am happy the County Government’s twitter and Facebook are very active though they should strive to provide more and more information to the public. The County’s website also needs to be updated regularly and more information posted,’’ he said.
Sumba said County Governments take the lead in public participation compared to National Government despite receiving only 15 per cent of the total budget.
