Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has lauded Matayos South Ward Member of the County Assembly Hon. Linus Asiba for procuring a tractor through the Ward Development Fund, and urged other MCAs to follow suit.
The MCA spent Sh3.5m to procure the tractor that will be used to till land for widows and other vulnerable groups in his ward at no cost.
Presiding over the launch, the Governor said the purchase of more tractors, to add onto the fleet the county Government has, will improve food security in the county.
“I laud the efforts by Hon. Asiba and urge other MCAs to emulate that kind gesture and no doubt the culture of using ox- ploughs will be a thing of the past. The tractor will help vulnerable groups involve themselves in constructive activities,” he said.
Governor Ojaamong, who also donated farm inputs to vulnerable groups ahead of the planting season, urged them to capitalize on the long rains to increase agricultural production.
He told farmers to be cautious while choosing the right seeds and fertilizer to avoid using fake maize seeds and fertilizer which will yield zero growth.
Mwalimu Asiba is the first MCA in the second assembly and the second since the advent of devolution in 2013 to procure a tractor for his residents. Bukhayo West was the first in the first assembly.
The MCA said widows and other vulnerable groups will have their land tilled at zero cost while those who are able will be charged Sh2000 per acre.
