The Department of Health and Sanitation has taken the lion’s share of the Sh553million conditional grant Busia County Government received through the Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP).
The Department has been allocated Sh270.9million. Agriculture is second with Sh117.4m, Water Sh88.7m, and Roads 75.9m with Sh17.7m for general administration, design, advertisement, and Monitoring and Evaluation.
Of the amount allocated to health Sh64m will go towards equipping of Accident and Emergency Unit and installing the lift, Sh54m (Equipping of Maternity and New-born Unit), Sh20m (Corporate Services Block), Sh19.9m (refurbishment of the Busia County and Referral Hospital).
Sh10m for construction of a Dental Unit at Alupe SCH and Sh5m for equipping the mortuary. Kocholia SCH will benefit from Sh 4m for completion of the Ward and Sh6m for equipping it. Sh13m will go towards purchase of X-Ray equipment at Sio Port and Sh2m for refurbishment of radiology block at the same hospital.
Port Victoria will receive Sh7m for completion of the Maternity Ward and SH5m for equipping it; Nambale will get Sh6m for completion of theatre at Nambale SCH, Sh7m for equipping the theatre and Sh4m for completion of hospital ward. At Khunyngu SCH Sh3m has been allocated for completion of the theatre and Sh 4m for equipping it..
The Sh46.4m allocated to Agriculture will go towards construction of Auxiliary an Supporting Block and Training Area at Busia ATC, Sh13m for equipping the ATC
Sh36m will be used for Cross border fish trans-shipment and wholesale market at the Busia border fish export and import market while Sh22m will be used for small holder day milk production Parks Establishment project in Teso South and Butula.
Sh33m allocated to Water department will be used in expansion of Mundika Water Supply , Sh8.6m expansion of Nambale Water Supply, Sh13m (Elugulu-Bwaliro water project), Sh10m (Madivira water supply) and Sh20m (expansion of Busijo water supply).
Sh75.9m allocated to roads will be used for the construction of boxed culverts along the 12.5km sugar road of Machakus- Duka Moja-Katanyu- Onyunyur- Akulonyi,-Kamolo- Akapijan-Gara.
Busia was named the top county by the World Bank after meeting five key results areas including public finance management, planning, monitoring and evaluation, human resource and performance management, civic education and public participation, and environmental and social safeguards.
