Busia County Government  will spend Sh16 million  in the revival of   Mulwanda ginnery in Samia sub county, County Executive Committee Member for  Trade, Co-operatives and Industrialization, Judy Maketso has revealed.

Speaking on Wednesday after the tour of the ginnery, the CEC Member said the money has been set aside in the financial year 2018/2019.

She told the residents to  rally behind its revival, adding that  the project is close to the heart of the Governor  Sospeter Ojaamong.

” Busia county needs investors. This  will only come  to fruition if  the money  meant for the project  is used  for intended purpose. The department will work closely with  the seven affiliated  primary societies,” she said.

Chief Officer Co-operatives Nelson Kwamini said the   revival  of the ginnery is  not a one man’s show, adding that all stakeholders are needed to work together to ensure there is enough material  when  the ginnery starts operating.

Kwamini urged  society  leaders to visit the county offices whenever there is an issue to be sorted out.

The  societies group chairman  Vincent Lumumba said 600 kilograms of cotton seeds  will be supplied to the societies that  will in turn supply them  to the farmers, adding that  planting will  run between June and August, 2018.

Lumumba said due to scarcity of land farmers will  spare at least one acre for the crop. He

appealed to the  County  and National Governments to educate farmers on the need to  continue planting cotton  and shun  politicians who  discourage them to do so.

He also  requested the county government to develop demonstration plots to help farmers learn more especially when the Ginnery opens door to the public.
