Mwalimu Asiba elected new Busia Assembly Budget chair

Former Secondary School science teacher Linus Asiba and Matayos South MCA was on Thursday elected the new Busia County Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee chairman beating immediate former chairman John Obwogo by 5 votes to 4.

The hotly contested election was presided over by Assembly Clerk Allan Mabuka. Patrick Omanyala is the new vice chair after beating Obwogo by the same margin.

 The Nangina MCA whose committee was disbanded in June conceded defeat and another one adopted by the Assembly on June 20th received a reprieve when the Assembly sitting on Wednesday adopted his name and nine others following a truth by the 53-member assembly.

Other members of the committee include Grace Olita, Bartholomew Were, Eunice Nyongesa, Julius Ochou, Patrick Omanyala, Moses Echopat, Asiba and Zainabu Muyoti.

Obwogo said democracy has prevailed, adding that as a member of the Budget committee he will continue with his oversight role to ensure that public resources were well utilized.

“We want to bury the hatchet considering that Busia is one. The gist of the matter that led to the disbandment of my committee is in public domain, ’he said.

On his part, Asiba thanked the members who accorded him the honor to lead the budget committee saying his immediate task is to work on the supplementary budget.

He urged his opponent and good friend Obwogo to forget about the outcome of the elections and join hands with him in  revamping the committee.
