Nation Media Group is seeking partnership with Busia County Government in various fields including education, agriculture and information exchanges programs among others.
NMG acting Chief Executive Officer Stanley Gitagama led a team of top editorial and corporate affairs team of the Group in paying a courtesy call to Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong in his office on Tuesday.
The CEO said NMG needs partnership in Agriculture through the Seed s of Gold program where farmers will be assisted to improve on their agricultural production.
Gitagama said it’s very rare these days for a farmer to produce 20 bags of maize per acre. “Farmers lack knowledge on how to increase their productivity, thus the need to educate them on best practices that can turn around their fortunes,” he said.
The CEO said the Nation Media Group has introduced Newspapers in Education program in partnership with county governments to have copies of Monday newspapers with an eight-page pullout ” Junior spot” on topical stories to enhance learning in various schools and to enable children say their own story.
” We covered 152 schools in 20 counties in 2017. A part from the learning materials we have examination papers in Taifa Leo which has proved popular among pupils in primary schools,” he said, adding that this is meant to address literacy in schools.
Flanked by Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said his government has had cordial relationship with NMG. However, he told the Group to portray also the positive achievements of county governments and not only the negative side.
” Continued negative coverage on counties will scare away investors . There are many investment opportunities which can help create job opportunities for county residents.
Busia is a multi-cultural county with many annual cultural events that is good destination for both local and international tourists. This needs to exploited to the maximum,” he said.
The Governor revealed to the Nation team that Busia County will host the second Summit meeting of the Lake Region Economic Bloc on June 8th, 2018 at the Hotel Itoya.
” The World Bank report ranked Busia top for ease of doing business. We need tell our people that it takes only a day to get trading licence in Busia,” he said.
