Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has said only Kisumu can match Busia County in hospitality industry in Western and Nyanza region.

‘’We have taken a major stride in the hotel industry to put us among the top two. Only Kisumu beats us in the industry but we are on top in Western region,’’ he said.

Speaking when he opened the DRIMZ Hotel (DH) in Busia town, the Governor said many businessmen have ventured into the hotel industry because of the conducive investment climate prevailing in the county.

The Governor lauded the co-partner Peter Obwogo, the Principal of St Peter’s High School, Iten for shunning the culture of many Busians who opt to invest outside the county and forsaking their mother county.

He said talks are on-going between the Council of Governors and National Government to harmonize Per Diems to discourage county employees from holding workshops in cities which attract high per diems.

Uganda High Commissioner to Kenya Phibby Otaala, who had earlier paid a courtesy to the Governor, said Uganda will partner with Busia County in various trade ventures.

‘’Busia Kenya is a unique county controlled by Busia and Malaba borders. Many Ugandans cross to the Kenyan side of the border to purchase various products in the spirit of the East African Cooperation,’’ she said.

Ms. Otaala said it is her pride to associate with the best county in Kenya which recently won a grant of Ksh553m (Ush20billion) from the World Bank through the Kenya Devolution Support Pogramme over its prudent financial management policy and submission of prompt audit reports.

The Envoy said she will bring over 100 Ugandans drawn from various regions to benchmark in Busia County on why Busia has taken big strides in Agriculture and health sector ahead of the biggest exhibition later in the year.

‘’We shall enjoy good accommodation in this beautiful county for a couple of days as we visit various tourist sites across the county,’’ she said.

Busia County Commissioner Jacob Marengo said the new hotel in Busia is a gesture of good investment adding that Busia has peaceful environment for doing business.

DH joins a fleet of hotels in the county including Itoya, Breeze, Chef West, Farmview, The Quill, Rastopark, Texas Annex, Afric, Rowzena, Comfort, Levantes, Western Ambiance, Mulembe International, Border Palace an Laudrap.
