Oparanya elected new CoG chairman

ODM Deputy Party leader and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Ambetsta Oparanya was on Monday elected new Council of Governors chairman, replacing his Turkana counterpart Josphat Nanok.  

In his acceptance speech, H.E Oparanya pledged to better devolution in partnership with the National Government.

He beat  Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Salim Mvurya (Kwale) and Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu) to emerge the winner. Muranga Governor Mwangi wa Iria is the new vice chair, taking over from Anne Waiguru.

H.E Oparanya was the member of the Finance and Economic Affairs Committee at the CoG. Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto was the inaugural chairman from 2013-15.
