Siaya cyclist wins Busia Cycling race

A 22-year-old cyclist from Ugunja in Siaya County  emerged the winner of the  Kenya Cycling Association Busia  County open championships  that started and  ended  at Busia  County Stadium on Saturday.
Joel Odhiambo  Kola  beat his closest challenger  Wayinja  Wakiku from Busia Uganda  to claim TVS motorcycle  donated by  Car and General.
Wakiku received Sh20,000. Mark Wanjala from Uganda  took Sh10,000 after taking  third position with Isaiah Bogere (Uganda) receiving  Sh3,000 for  fourth  place finish. Brian  Yanga (Uganda) and  Geoffrey Nyong  (Bungoma) received  Sh2000 after finishing fifth and sixth respectively.
Seventh to tenth  finishers received Sh2,000 each with those who finished in 11th to 20th positions taking home Sh1,000 each. Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong  donated Sh100,000 for  the cash awards.
Odhiambo said it was a big honour for him and attributed his success to his coach and Siaya KCA chairman Odhiambo Dok.
Dok lauded Ojaamong for the sponsorship and appealed to other governors to emulate that magnificent feat.
Speaking while flagging off the cyclists, Ojaamong said   the County Government will sponsor  Tour De Busia  competition in  April , 2017 with a view to tapping talents that abounds among the youth in the County. ” This event is an eye opener  to us to  plan a better one next year. “
Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa  said the inclusion of runners from Uganda  is important in embracing cordial relations between Kenya and Uganda.
County Boda Boda Association Eric Makokha  urged boda boda operators to observe traffic rules, adding that Aids among cyclists if the youth embark on  extra curriculums examination.
