Soccer legends Dawo, Motego to tour Busia ahead of KICOSCA/CASA Games

Two soccer legends  Peter Dawo and  Henry Motego will tour Busia County before this year’s  6th  edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association and County Assemblies  Sports Association (KICOSCA/CASA)  games to be hosted by Kisii County  between August 12th and 19th, 2018.

Busia County Executive Committee Member  for  Youth, Sports, Culture, Tourism and  Social Services  Bernard Yaite  said  the two have agreed they will visit Busia to  give motivation  to  Busia County Football Team.

The CECM said  Motego and Dawo  recalled with nostalgia  how their clubs used to meet their waterloo in the hands of Busia Simba and Busia United at the Busia Stadium.

Dawo, whose golden head led Gor Mahia to victory in the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1987 after beating Esperance of Tunisia in the finals  is a member of Kisumu County team  while  Motego is the coach of Kisii County which  won the Kicosca title in 2016 in Kiambu County.

Busia County  soccer team came close to clinching the title in 2015 in Eldoret but lost in the final.  Lady luck was not on them again last year in Machakos when they lost to the eventual winners Machakos in the  semi finals.

Yaite who  returned from Kisii where he witnessed  the handing over of  Kicosca ceremonial chain  and the peace torch by Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua to his Kisii counterpart  James Ongwae said Busia will present a formidable side during the games, adding that the teams to represent the county have started serious preparations.

Yaite said  the County has elabo

rate plans  to start recruiting 25  players from July that will culminate in the formation of a soccer club to be sponsored by the  County Government.

“I am calling upon  all youth with talents to turn up in large numbers during recruitment exercise that will be carried across the  County. Soon you will see AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia here.

We want to see to it that the team is entered for Division Two competition. Our target is to have  a team   in the Kenya  Premier League  by 2021,” he said.
