St Catherine’s Special School Butula Volleyball Girls will represent Kenya at the Summer Special Olympics to be staged in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates starting March 14-21, 2019.
The team has been training in Nairobi for the last two weeks ahead of the games that has attracted over 7500 athletes from more than 190 nations.
Kenya will feature in 12 disciplines including athletics, basketball, soccer boys, volleyball girls, handball, Bocce, golf, beach volleyball, swimming and cycling.
Team coach Laura Nekesa has exuded confidence that the team has what it takes to win back their lost glory in the event that Kenya has dominated. They depart for the games on Friday.
“The school has continued to recognize talents with special needs, but lack of resources has hindered our resolve to tap talents that abound in the institution,” she said.
Special Olympics which was established in 1968, is a global organization that serves athletes with intellectual disabilities working with hundreds of thousands of volunteers and coaches each year.
