
BUSIA COUNTY PARTNERS WITH EYE HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS TO TACKLE VISION IMPAIRMENT
In a bid to reduce cases of visual impairment across the county, the Busia County Government, through its' Departments of Strategic Partnerships and Health and Sanitation, has partnered with three leading organizations to improve eye care services.
The new partnership includes the Fred Hollows Foundation, the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB), and Sightsavers. Together with the county government, these organizations will roll out the "Boresha Macho Initiative", a comprehensive eye health program aimed at preventing, treating, and managing eye conditions at the grassroots level.
The initiative will involve a variety of interventions among them being establishment of Vision Centers, tele-refraction Services, public education and sensitization campaigns on matters eye care.
Speaking during the workshop, Dr. Lusamba, Chief Officer for Health, and Mr. Vincent Wanjala, Chief Officer for Strategic Partnerships, reaffirmed the county’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for the implementation of the initiative and promised full cooperation with the partners.
Several other departments have joined the initiative, including the Department of Education, the Children's Department, and the Department of Youth Affairs, to help expand outreach and ensure inclusive participation.
