Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama soccer tournament will be launched at Busia County Stadium on Saturday, County Executive Committee Member for Culture and Sports Bernard Yaite revealed on Tuesday.
Addressing the press after the staff audit of the department at Farm View Hotel, Yaite said the event will attract clubs from across the county.
“Busy County champions will play the winner from Kakamega County with the overall winner declared the inaugural Victor Wanyama champions,” he said.
Wanyama, 27, is the son of former Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards star player in 1980s Noah Wanyama whose lethal shots earned him admiration.
Wanyama moved to Southampton in 2013 before joining Hotspurs. He has earned over 40 caps for the national team since joining in 2007 aged 15 years.
Meanwhile, the selection for the Busia County teams to the sixth edition of the Kenya Intercountry sports and cultural association games will be held on July 5-6, 2018.
Yaite said the department has sent a circular to all county staff who wish to join any of the disciplines to attend the selection exercise.
