BUSIA COUNTY CONCLUDES PHASE III ASSET VALUATION EXERCISE IN LINE WITH NATIONAL TRANSFER DIRECTIVE

The County Government of Busia, in collaboration with the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning, has successfully concluded Phase III of the National Asset Verification  exercise, as is part of the ongoing commitment by the National Government to complete asset valuation and transfer to county governments, as directed by the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).

The exercise, which ran from 11th to 24th June 2025, covered all seven sub-counties of Busia County. Out of the 441 targeted public land parcels, 238 assets were successfully verified, while 203 remain pending due to various challenges encountered during field operations. This effort is critical in addressing long-standing delays that have hindered county governments from utilizing inherited assets for effective service delivery.

The verification team exited through a debriefing meeting held at the County Commissioner’s office, chaired by Chief Officer for Lands and Housing, Vincent Wanjala, the session reviewed progress, discussed implementation challenges, and explored strategies for the upcoming phases.

Busia County’s active participation in this exercise demonstrates its commitment to the national goal of completing the asset transfer process, a critical step toward empowering devolved units with full control over their operational resources.
