The functions of the Directorate are:

1. Implementing policies and program on gender, social and protection and vulnerable groups disabled widows, elderly
2. Coordinating the implementation of national standards and guidelines on vulnerable groups
3. Coordinating social welfare including all vulnerable groups such as widows
4. Coordinating Community development programs registration of community groups, grants in aid to social groups
5. Coordinating and facilitating issuance of grants in aid to community groups
6. Complementing and managing community capacity support canters in the county.
7. Inspecting and complementing community development projects
8. Community libraries
9. Organising children assemblies in the county
10. Processing certification of childcare centres/ orphanage in the county
11. Coordinating construction and management of child protection center in the county
12. Conducting monitoring and evaluating child protection services in the county
13. Conducting trainings for area advisory councils
14. Implementing the juvenile justice programme
