Pursuant to Article 235 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and Section 59 (1) (b), of The County Governments Act No.17, 2012, The County Public Service Board of Busia invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions in the Department of Agriculture and Department of Health and Sanitation.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

  1. ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL OFFICER III JOB GROUP ‘H’ (15 Posts)
  2. a) Duties and responsibilities

This will be the entry and training grade for assistant agricultural officers’ cadre. An officer at this level will be deployed at in the ward or Agriculture Training Centre.

Duties and responsibilities will involve training and advising farmers on matters related to crop production, Agribusiness, land development, planning and management of agricultural demonstration plots.

  1. b) Requirements for appointments

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  1. Kenya certificate of secondary education [KCSE], mean grade C- or its equivalent.
  2. A Diploma in any of the following fields: Agriculture, Agriculture and Economics, Agriculture Education, Horticulture or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

ASSISTANT FOOD TECHNOLOGIST JOB GROUP ‘H’- (2 Posts)

  1. a) Duties and responsibilities

This will be the entry and training grade for Assistant Food technologist cadre. An officer at this level will be deployed at Agriculture Training Centre or any agro-processing plant in the County.

Duties and responsibilities will involve training and advising farmers on matters related to Agribusiness, Management of Agro-processing plants at Agriculture Training Centre and any other in the County, planning and management of agro-processing related demonstrations in the County.

  1. b) Requirements for appointments

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  1. Kenya certificate of secondary education [KCSE], mean grade C- or its equivalent.
  2. A Diploma in food science and technology or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  3. FOOD TECHNOLOGIST JOB GROUP ‘K’ (2 Posts)
  4. Duties and responsibilities

This will be the entry and training grade for Food technologist cadre. An officer at this level will be deployed at Agriculture Training Centre or any agro-processing plant in the County.

Duties and responsibilities will involve training and advising farmers on matters related to Agribusiness, planning and management of agroprocessing related demonstrations in the County, Management of Agroprocessing plants at Agriculture Training Centre and any other location in the County. The Officer will be the head of an Agroprocessing unit in the County.

  1. Requirement for appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have a bachelors of science [BSc.] degree in food science and technology or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution

  • MECHANIC II- JOB GROUP ‘E’ (5 POSTS)
  1. a) Duties and responsibilities

This is the entry and training grade for mechanics. An officer at this level will be expected to maintain the county Tractor in good condition at all times. Specific duties and responsibilities will involve carrying out repairs to plant and farm tractors, maintain workshop tools, ensure cleanliness of the work and any other duty assigned by the workshop manager.

  1. b) Requirements for appointments

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  • Kenya certificate of secondary education [KCSE], mean grade D plain or its equivalent.
  • Occupational Trade Test grade III
  • Two years’ experience as a mechanic in a recognized institution/Motor vehicle garage or an internship of similar period.

VETERINARY DIRECTORATE

  1. ANIMAL HEALTH ASSISTANT II, JOB GROUP G- (7 Posts)

Duties and Responsibilities

This will be the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced

  1. Carrying out simple treatment of animals
  2. Participating in disease search and reporting, demonstrating on milking techniques and external parasite control techniques such as dipping, spraying and dusting, carrying out vaccination and undertaking closed castration, dehorning, de-worming, disbudding, docking, de-beaking and hoof trimming.

Requirement for Appointments

For direct appointment to these grade an officer must

  1. Certificate lasting not less than two(2) years in any of the following disciplines: Animal Health, environmental health, Animal health and production from a recognized institution:
  2. Be a registered by the Kenya veterinary board
  • Have a certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.

VETERINARY OFFICER, JOB GROUP “L” (2 Posts)

Duties and responsibilities

This will be the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer

Duties and responsibility

  1. Undertaking disease control activities such as disease search, vaccination and enforcement of livestock movement regulations.
  2. participating in the training of stakeholders in vector control programmes
  3. Treating sick animals
  4. Advising on good veterinary practices
  5. collecting data and preparing reports on animal health, products and market
  6. Providing advice on animal breeding and welfare.
  7. undertaking postmortem examination and other diagnostics

Requirement for direct appointment

  1. Be in possession of a Bachelors of veterinary medicine(BVM)Degree from a recognized institution
  2. Be a registered by the Kenya veterinary board
  3. Have a certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution and

 

LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION DIRECTORATE

ASSISTANT LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION OFFICER III, JOB GROUP ‘H’ (9 POSTS)

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail: carrying out practical demonstrations relating to livestock production; collecting and collating livestock data and information; accompanying extension teams during farm visits and farmer trainings; participating in field days and agricultural shows to disseminate livestock production technologies and information; collecting and collating livestock data and information for gross margins, market access and planning; participating in collaborative research activities; collecting livestock inputs and products samples for analysis; and advising farmers on group formation, construction of farm structures and equipment.

(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

Diploma in any of the following fields: – Animal Production, Dairy Science and Technology, Animal Science, Agribusiness, Animal Health and Production, Farm Management, Apiculture or Range/Natural Resource Management from a recognised Training Institution; and

  • Certificate in computer applications.

FISHERIES DIRECTORATE

  1. ASSISTANT FISHERIES OFFICER III, JOB GROUP ‘H’ (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

This is the entry and training grade for diploma holders. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a more experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities will involve: – assisting in delivering fisheries extension services including conducting field days and training fishers; collecting and compiling fisheries statistical data; and participating in fish quality assurance activities and marketing.

Requirements for appointment

Diploma in either Fisheries management, Natural Resource management or equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution; and

  1. Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution
  2. FISHERIES OFFICER, JOB GROUP ‘K’ (4 Posts)

(a) Duties and responsibilities

This is the entry and training grade for degree holders. An officer at this level will work under the guidance and supervision of an experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities will entail:- receiving and compiling fisheries related statistical data from field officers; analyzing fisheries data and preparing reports; assisting in Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) of the fisheries resources; undertaking fisheries extension activities; maintaining of ponds at fish farms and hatcheries; inspecting fish and fish handling facilities at fish landing sites, markets and farms; and assisting in the promotion of fish marketing and value addition.

(b) Requirement for Appointment

  1. Bachelors degree in any of the following fields: – Fisheries, Zoology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural resource Management, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution; and
  2. Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.

 

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND SANITATION

1.REGISTERED NURSE I (SPECIALIZED NURSING CARE – NEPHROLOGYNURSE) JOB GROUP “K” – (1 post)

Work at this level involves working with both pediatric and adult patients with kidney disease. The nephrology nurse working in a dialysis unit will be involved in delivery of primary care, secondary care and case management of patients.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting with dialysis treatment in hospital settings based on patient preferences and capabilities
  • Maintain inventory and care of dialysis equipment
  • Substantial ability to operate dialysis equipment
  • Assessment of patients and development of care plan in collaboration with other members of the health care team
  • Identification of risk factors
  • Patient and family education with regard to treatment protocols to help manage expectations
  • Provision of nursing care prior to, during and post dialysis treatment and
  • Implementing interventions and preparing periodic reports.

Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • Worked in a busy renal care unit for a minimum period of two (2) years
  • Diploma in the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya registered Midwifery, Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery or Kenya Registered Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry qualification from a recognized institution
  • Higher Diploma in Kenya Registered Nephrology Nursing from a recognized institution
  • Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid practicing licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Terms of employment: permanent and pensionable

  • The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and
