County Government of Busia

"Gateway to East and Central Africa"

Kenlinks Solutions is ready to roll out a digital platform called Sayvu (SAVU) to help curtail the never ending traffic congestion and accidents along the Northern Corridor in Busia and Malaba.

Busia County Chief Officer in the Governor's office in charge of ICT and Communication Lydia Nabwire said the move to outsource the platform followed instructions by the PS for ICT Jerome Ochieng to his team and the County Government to come up with a digital solution for seamless movement of trucks across the Busia and Malaba border points.

The Chief Officer said once the PS approves the digital platform, it will help end the challenge of traffic pile-ups along the Northern Corridor that has affected trade activities not only in Busia but among the Great Lakes Region.

“The menace is on both sides of the border; the implementation of the platform on the Kenyan sides may not offer a permanent solution if it’s not replicated on the Ugandan side, thus the need by Kenyan authorities to implore Uganda to adopt it,” she said, hence the need for the other East African Countries to adopt it.

Speaking after a demo on the new technology that was used during the Rio Olympics in 2016, Kenlinks Solutions Project Lead Mr Okotch Mondoh said the app can be used for different particles such as medical, municipality, accidents, terrorists and above all Covid-19.

“The digital platform will help in management of teams, sending out alerts and notifications autonomously so that people are able to know what is happening with very specific locations of where incidents are happening so that response times can be very fast,” he said.

Mr Mondoh told the Chief Officer who hosted the delegation, that responding to emergencies in real time saves lives, time and money, adding that SAYVU can help the country and the entire East African States to manage trucks, transit to make it very quick to get through the border points because information can be shared digitally in real time.

“I want the National and Busia County Governments to embrace this technology on a pilot basis before it’s rolled to other East African countries which are willing to adopt it,” he said, adding that besides using the platform to control traffic pile ups, the home grown solution can also be used by departments like Roads, Agriculture, Health, Municipality and Education to respond to emergencies in real time.
