Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has finally send surveyors to Busia County to commence work on the delayed rural electrification project for the financial year 2019/2020.

The project delayed by over one year due to what REREC attributed to logistical challenges until the intervention of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong following his meeting with the Corporation CEO, Mr Peter Mbugua at KAWI House in Nairobi in the company of County Executive Committee Member for Infrastructure and Energy, Mr Okwara Ekirapa.

Chief Officer for Transport and Energy Engineer, Gilbert Oduory said a total of Sh76million has been injected in the project which will cover 35 sites across the county.

"We thank H.E the Governor for his intervention to have the project take off and REREC's quick response to the Governor's request to fast track the project to enable residents benefit from power connectivity," Eng Oduori said.

Eng Oduory said Betula Surveyors will survey 13 projects covering Teso North and Teso South Sub Counties, Homeciti will handle 13 projects in Matayos and Nambale while Fedlink Creations will be in charge of nine projects in Funyula and Butula.

He said the survey which is expected to take one week will pave way for final design and allocation of the sites to the contractor to start the process of lighting up more villages in Busia County.
