Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has commissioned state of the art 30-bed male ward at the Kocholiya Sub County Hospital in Teso North Sub County.

Speaking after officially launching the Sh13million facility funded by the World Bank through the Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP), H.E Ojaamong said it is an achievement for the County Government of Busia which remains committed towards ensuring that residents get healthcare services.

“Those who have continuously criticized my Government for not doing anything in terms of development should start by acknowledging this project,” he said.

Ojaamong said a lot has been done in terms of infrastructural development in the County, adding that most of the health facilities are equipped with modern equipment including X-ray machines.

The Governor also acknowledged that several challenges are being experienced at the hospital among them shortage of drugs, reagents and staff, which he said will be addressed in the next financial year.

His remarks were echoed by Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi who said the new ward which is fully equipped will be of great help to the community.

“We are happy that the facility commissioned will benefit patients who will be admitted,” he said.

Mulomi who is also the acting Health Executive said Ojaamong’s administration has constructed theatres, wards, laboratories and maternity wings in different public hospitals in the County for the benefit of the local residents.

The Chief Officer Health and Sanitation Dr Isaac Omeri said the Kocholia hospital will receive additional doctors to boost service delivery.

Local residents led by Malaba South Ward MCA David Kokonya thanked the Governor for the project, adding that a lot has been done at the Hospital in terms of development.

“We appreciate what the County Government has provided to us,” said Kokonya.

This is the first male ward at the facility and will cater for an estimated 18,600 patients annually for the catchment population.

It will also ease congestion that was being experienced at the hospital.
