Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has underscored the importance of proper utilization of mosquito nets to boost the fight against malaria which remains the greatest killer disease in the county.

Speaking at the Matayos Health Centre where he presided over the official launch of the Busia County mass net distribution, the Governor revealed that malaria prevalence rate in the county stands at 19 per cent which is higher compared to other counties.

 

H.E Ojaamong who also commissioned the distribution of microscopes, stressed the need for residents to support efforts put in place by his administration and other partners in reversing the trend.

" Malaria remains a dangerous disease that requires joint efforts to tame it," said the Governor, who
appreciated partners for their enormous support in the fight against malaria.

"I appreciate the role played by Community Health Volunteers who my government is keen on addressing challenges affecting them.

Through the Community Health Services Bill that will mobilize resources to address challenges facing CHVs," he said.

The County Chief said despite the financial challenges, his government will operationalize all health facilities across the county to improve on service delivery.

Deputy Governor H.E Moses Mulomi said the County Government has procured chemicals for use to spray in stagnant waters which is breeding ground for mosquitoes.

H.E Mulomi who is the acting health executive said the county government will after receiving the next Covid-19 vaccine, will cascade it to health centres and dispensaties where there are equipment.

Chief Officer Public Health Jonathan Ino said the health and Sanitation Department has made strides in improving healthcare services in the County, urging residents to appreciate instead of criticizing.

Chief Officer Medical Services Dr Isaac Omeri said there are plans to upgrade four health centres including Matayos to Sub County status.

His remarks were echoed by the Director Medical Services Dr Janerose Ambuchi who thanked the Governor for improving the health sector for the benefit of county residents.
