Funyula Central Business District (CBD) in Samia Sub County, has got the first tarmac road since independence courtesy of the Country Government of Busia under the leadership of H.E Sospeter Ojaamong.
This has excited local leaders led by Nangina Member of the Country Assembly Hon John Obwogo who lauded the County Government and the contractor Hanal Investments Ltd for a job well done.
Infrastructure and Energy Executive Mr Okwara Ekirapa who was on a site visit of Samia Sub-County to inspect ongoing road projects under Bitumen and Fuel Levy programs appreciated the work of the contractor.
" The move by the County Government of Busia to upgrade roads to bitumen standards is meant to facelift town centres across the County under Governor Sospeter Ojaamong's administration which has so far tarmacked 16.2 Kilometres across the County.
He said similar works have been done in Amagoro,Adungosi and Bumala with drainage works set to begin as soon as possible on the roads upgraded.
In Funyula CBD the contractor Layed tarmac on the approximately 1km stretch which has opened access to Funyula Market, CDF offices as well as Moody Awori Primary school.
The County Government of Busia has so far graded and gravelled approximately 950KM across the County under the Fuel Levy Program.
Under the Fuel Levy Program, the CEC inspected ongoing works on the 5km Bukiri-Mumbaka road (Agenga Nanguba),5.2KM Funyula-Nerobia road (Namboboto Nambuku)and 3.5KM Kanoti-Malanga Primary (Nangina) where grading and gravelling works had been done.
Mr Okwara lauded the contractors for executing the projects in good time and within the set guidelines in the Bills of Quantities which will open up the road network across the county.
Nangina MCA Hon.John Obwogo commended the contractor for a job well done in connecting the residents in the entire Sub-County especially the new Kanoti-Malanga road which was previously non-existent.
The CEC was accompanied by Chief Officers' Priscah Omoit (Infrastructure Lower Region) , Eng.Gilbert Oduory (Transport and Energy)and Eng.Cyprian Oliko who is the Director Roads and Transport.
