The Department of Health and Sanitation has received three new vehicles (Toyota Hilux Double Cabin) that will support Reproductive Health activities and the fight against Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Busia County.
Two of the vehicles were purchased by funds from the World Bank Transforming Health Systems for Universal Health Care Project, while the third one was donated by the National Government through the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Addressing journalists in Busia town, Health Chief Officer (Medical Services) Dr Isaac Omeri said the vehicles will be distributed within the County especially in Teso North, Samia and Bunyala Sub Counties to ease movement.
Dr Omeri thanked the World Bank and the National Government for supporting the health department to offer quality services to area residents.
“We appreciate the National Government and the World Bank for that immense support that we have received from them to help us perform our duties and offer quality services to the people of Busia County,” he said.
Busia County is among 13 Counties including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, Nyeri, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Taita Taveta, Elgeyo Marakwet and Kisii that received Rapid Response vehicles from the Ministry of Health.
They were flagged off by the Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe who said they will boost the Counties capacity in contact tracing and surveillance as the battle to control Covid-19 virus gains momentum.
He also said that training of contact tracing teams was still ongoing on matters technology and data management.
Busia County has so far recorded more than 650 positive cases of Covid-19 of which no death has been registered.
